Outsound are a four-piece hard rock band from Cork who released their debut album, Megatherium, in 2024. It's a stomper of an album, featuring thundering drums, lead bass lines, crunching guitar riffs and blistering yet emotive, bluesy guitar solos. I really like this album over multiple listens and I feel it's an album that seems to gather momentum from start to finish and sounds better on each listen. The band featuring Steve Beale, Alan Murphy, Aaron Kennedy and Luke Butler has combined hard rock, metal, grunge and alt-rock into a sound that I really like. I especially appreciate the lead guitar playing where the notes are carefully crafted and never wasted for the sake of speed. Standout songs for me are Crème Brûlée, Adeline, Semi-Dog, and Venereal Charm.
Outsound have recently released their new single, called Mousetrap which is the first glimpse of where their next album is going. It feels slightly more polished than the sound on Megatherium, but in the best possible way. The drums hit as hard as ever. The song rocks and the melody in the chorus is as good as anything they've released to date.
Ireland is full of great hard rock bands at the moment, and Outsound have lots of potential to be up there with the best of them. Go check them out and let me know what you think.
