Intricate | West Cork's Finest
Intricate are an emerging four-piece indie rock band from Clonakilty in West Cork. Ranging in age from 16 to 24, the band features Andrew Whelton on lead vocals/guitar, Kieran Jayes on bass, Rian McCarthy on guitar and James Carey on drums. The band played their first gig together in 2025 and have released two singles to date. I quite like them both.
Intricate have a very polished, radio-friendly, feel-good sound. The debut single, Getting Close, is a strong introduction featuring an excellent chorus melody. I particularly like the lead guitar sound in the verse and chorus, which adds a nice atmospheric tone throughout.
The Clonakilty boys have just released their follow-up single, Changing Seasons. I feel like this is an even better song than their debut. The pre-chorus is my favourite, but the whole song is great. It's a song that brings up emotions when you listen and that's always a winner for me.
Intricate are a new band that I'll be following from now on. One thing that stands out in both singles is that the vocals are very strong. Hopefully there are many more good songs to follow. Go check them out!
