Exhalers - Rare and Wonderful

Exhalers are a hard rock band led by Alan Lynn. All songs are written and recorded by the man from Bangor, which in itself is an amazing achievement, but when the result is an ear stomping, melodic and captivating sound, it's something rare and wonderful. When Exhalers play live, they feature a line up of Lynn on vocals and drums, Mike Andrews on guitar, Robert Robb on guitar and Dan Cole on bass and vocals.

Exhalers have released three full length albums to date which showcase the remarkable song writing ability of the multi-talented Lynn, who has mastered all instruments and tops it off with an impressive and unique vocal delivery. The most recent of these albums is the 2023 release, Meat Clown, which throws out ten stomping hard rock tracks full of crunching distorted riffs and terrific drums that will change the rhythm of your heart. The second track on the album, Devil's Elbow, is the stand out track for me and the one I have had on my regular playlist. It's a song that quickly gets to full speed and features some nice pace changes, an infectious vocal melody and some rhythm sections that will lead an army of headbangers into war.

In 2024, Exhalers have dropped two singles so far, characterized by a slower and more sludgy tempo compared to their earlier releases. The first of these, Yellow Belly is a leftover from the Meat Clown era of writing and is a really great track. It's very melodic and almost psychedelic in feel, with a crunching riff in the middle, that somehow fits in nicely to what is not an aggressive song.

The latest single from Exhalers called ADG, is a very slow paced, atmospheric and emotional song. It's a song written to help Lynn deal with the pain of losing a best friend through suicide and it's a beautiful tribute.
