Echo Gate are a four-piece alternative rock band from Meath which features Joell Aquila on vocals/guitar, Diego James on drums, Tomás O’Neill on guitar/vocals and Reyna Natalia on bass. After an initial focus on live shows to learn their craft, they have now dropped their debut single, Break. I really like it.
Break is a slow-paced, grungy, alt rocker of a song. The vocal harmonies are the standout feature for me and I'm reminded of Pixies when I hear it. The band gel really well together. Every instrument is on its own journey. It's not just a wall of sound. The pacing of the song is great and it feels like a lazy Sunday rock song that I think most people will like. There is room to breathe and appreciate all aspects of the song from great vocal tracks to The Stone Roses-esque bass line.
Echo Gate have released a really strong debut single. I think their sound has international appeal and I look forward to following their journey. Go check them out!
