Méabh & Mella Carron are sisters, who along with Darragh McGrath, make up the Celtic pop / folk rock band, Carron. Anyone who follows my blog would know that I'm mostly into rock music. So, when a band from another genre really catches my attention, it usually means that I like them a lot. So it goes with Carron. They say their intention is "to heal" and I can definitely feel that in their music.

Formed in 2015, Carron have a very relaxing style of music, with soothing string sections, breathtaking harmonies and feel-good melodies that hit like lullabies for your soul. For my ears, they feel like a cross between The Corrs, Fleetwood Mac and Clannad. Having released many singles and a scatter of EPs since their formation, Carron are about to release their debut album, siúr, on November 21st, 2025. It's a fantastic representation of the songwriting, musicianship and diversity that this band possesses. All done while sounding very Irish, mystical and sprinkled with magic.

Standouts for me are the beautiful string version of Numb, the addictive Battle Lines with its funky bass and big chorus and the fantastic piano demo of Still Mine (which really reminded me of GroovyChuck favourite Jessie Dingle). While not my typical genre, I can't deny the magic of Carron and I certainly feel all the better for discovering them. I will be following them from now on and look forward to seeing them go from strength to strength.
