S C A P E G.O.A.T is the debut album from amazing Cavan artist Ria Rua, who I previously wrote nice things about. <check that out here> If you read back on that feature, you'll note how excited I was. I’ll get straight to it — the album is even better than I imagined. I'm blown away by the ambition of it all and even more amazed at the level of execution.
S C A P E G.O.A.T is a masterpiece. Every song is full of creative twists, killer beats, heavy rhythm sections, and just pure fun. The whole production is just breathtaking and I cannot believe how good it is. Honestly, I'm fuckin' impressed. Every second is carefully crafted. Every song is magically packed with deliberate detail.
S C A P E G.O.A.T is brilliant from start to finish. Standout songs for me are Mad as Hell (such a cool blend of styles, and for some reason I keep having visions of killer clowns?), Bitchemian Rhapsody (with its heavy as hell chorus), You'll Only Like Me When I'm Dead (brilliant pace changes + awesome drum sounds), I Love That For You (honestly... best intro ever) and the dark and broody Bi Sexy, which closes the album. Ria Rua herself seems like a really down-to-earth, genuine person. I don't believe she realises how good she is. Following her social media, I got a great laugh watching her pallet of records arrive as she jumped up and down like an excited member of the Sesame Street cast. (God, I hope that's not offensive.) The point I'm trying to make is that I could feel her excitement and genuine gratitude for just having made an album. Well done, Ria Rua. You've created something wonderful.
Final word goes to our Red Queen:
"S C A P E G.O.A.T. is a protest album. It's personal - in that all the
songs are about my experiences in the world - but at its core it's about getting angry and standing up for yourself in a world that's gone mad."
